Stalingrad Massengrab

Title is quoted from Sven Hassel's "the SS-General", indicating Stalingrad as the biggest manslaughter ever in a single battle.

I wanted to make realistic painting of the fightings in Stalingrad, which took place during 1942 and to 1943, where around 1-2 million lives were lost, and hence the German 6th Army led a crushing defeat leading to a German retreat on the entire Russian/Soviet-front.
The fightings at the Eastern front were more tense than on other fronts, as both of the opposed factions were fanatic ones, henceforth fanatic battles consisted, often resulting in extreme amount of deaths on both sides.
It's a tribute to the soldiers who died there. It's a tribute to their lives, that they lost because of crazy men's war.
